Happiness now

Happiness seems to be something off in the distance that we are all striving to reach; taking every step we can to find that happiness. If we could just get that promotion and then the extra money would make us happy or if we lost all that weight we would finally feel happy but why does it have to be in the future, why do we have to achieve something big or important in order to feel happy?

I don’t believe that everyone wakes up in the morning for every day in their life being upset and saddened with the hope that one day in their future happiness will come to them. So why do we only view happiness as something we will get in the future? It is truly ridiculous to not see the moments in our life, day to day, that make us happy irrespective of just how small these moments can be. Life is short and it all moves so very fast that the smallest glimmer of happiness should be treasured not overshadowed by the happiness that you are waiting for.

For some their happiness comes from simply having woken up in the morning and experiences another day. For others it is waking up and not feeling as bad as the night before –hangovers not included. So why not be satisfied with the small things in life. You have managed to open up your eyes and live another day within the world –hate it as you may- so many people in the world don’t get that chance, they don’t get to experience the world for one more day.

Trust me, the more you focus upon the little moments of happiness in your life, the better you will feel. The gloom of daily life will not linger over you trying to suck every ounce of a smile from your life. Happiness can be found within practically every part of our lives we just have to look out for it, not mistake it for ‘just one of those things’ and only focus on the end, on the bigger moments in our lives.

You got your makeup right, found a treat in the cupboard you thought you had forgotten, a little more money in the bank than you were expecting are all wonderful small moments of happiness in your life that should be cherished and never greeted with the phrase “yeah but….” Don’t let ‘but’ sap the happiness out of the moment. Our lives keep on moving forward, spiralling further and further into stress, confusion and overall upset. It is time we took a step back from the hectic lives we lead and spend some time upon our immediate happiness.

Sometimes the days really will be hard and you cannot find anything that will have made you happy, running late for work, caught out in the rain and everything has just gone wrong. So make your own happiness, treat yourself with something, it doesn’t have to be anything big, maybe just a drink or even a simple bar of chocolate and be proud of yourself that you managed to survive such a horrid day. Sometimes the best happiness is within.  Be happy; be proud that you have the inner strength to survive even the worst of days without having thrown in the towel, after all not everyone can do that.

Most of the time the biggest instant moment of happiness is often from other people in your life. Everything from a simple smile, to a compliment and a kind word can bring happiness into your otherwise possibly gloom filled life. To know that people appreciate you, or even just sometimes notice you is a great happiness boost and it does not take forever to find and appreciate. Why not give out that same warm happy feeling to make this cold world a better place?

Just imagine, the weather is horrid only reflecting your mood and somewhere deep inside you know that this day is not going to be a good one; believing that you should never have gotten out of bed. Then someone on the street smiles at you, someone at work says you look nice today or are doing a good job. Your mood can only improve as others around you share their happiness with you so return the favour. You never know your smile or friendly word could be the only one they need to cure their bad mood, to lift them back into happiness.

Laughing is contagious, and through laughing there is happiness so lift one person’s mood and they will only pay it forward, spreading joy back through the world. In turn you will feel happy within yourself for having improved someone else’s life, for having made them feel like they matter. Everyone wants to feel like they matter at some point in their lives.

If you only judge and measure your life’s happiness upon the bigger things in life, having that job promotion, losing all the weight you wanted your life will never be as happy as you believe it to be. Over look the small things within your life and you overlook huge amounts of happiness that can only improve your outlook on life. Remember, you have a roof over your head while so many people sleep rough upon the streets, food in your kitchen while so many people starve, family and friends surround you when there are so many people spending their lives alone. You already have so many things to be thankful for and happy about having in your life.

Happiness is not measured upon achievement, even the greatest most powerful person in the world can still suffer from sadness. It is how you think about your life, how you treat moments within your life that measure happiness.

So always keep the hope that your life will only keep on growing, developing and be filled with happiness, but share this happiness with those you love-sharing is caring- and focus upon your life in the present, make yourself happy. Relish within the present happiness, the instant happiness that you can feel every day and will only make those glum days just that bit more bearable.

My final words come from Albert Camus “You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life.”  The view of living your life in the present, accepting the happiness that you already have, and you can achieve in your daily life.

Happiness might feel like something that we are always striving to achieve to only find that it is always just out of reach but in fact it is just around the corner. It is in front of us every day we are just blind to see it due to always measuring our happiness upon what we can achieve in this busy, constantly turning gloom filled world.  Lift your life into the light, and enjoy every moment of happiness, no matter how small –if it matters to you, if it brings a smile to your face, then it matter, it is your own personal happiness.

    I’ve learned to take note of the positive/ pleasant occurrences and to give them more weight than the negatives.
    I hope to find a bit of contentment each day. It is something to be conscious of.
