Be The Perfect Version Of Yourself

Perfect: having all the required or desirable elements, qualities, or characteristics; as good as it is possible to be.

That is the dictionary’s definition of the word perfect. We hear that word a lot, especially in the media. We make our own minds up with what is perfect and what isn’t. We are constantly bombarded with so called perfect images and it can have a devastating effect on how you feel about yourself. What you need to remember is perfection doesn’t exist. There is no such thing as a perfect face, a perfect body or a perfect woman.

I was once an insecure teenage girl that hated my appearance and I thought I was supposed to look a certain way according to the media. I bought the latest teen magazines and held the images up in the light and tried to find flaws with the girls on the cover, there were none. It was only as I got older, I realised that it was only an illusion of perfection, that these women were not perfect at all. I spent all my money buying clothes and make up, to try and look like my favourite celebrities. I wasn’t happy with the way I looked and it was a dark place to be in at the time. I became over critical and obsessed with trying to look ‘perfect.’

Now, I stick two fingers up to anyone who says that I’m not good enough. I know I’m not perfect and I’m never going to be. I’ve grown up and I see the other side of things. If I believe in myself, I don’t mind how I look and I can accept my flaws, then what’s the problem? It is human nature to try and pick apart something or someone and find what is wrong or what needs to be fixed but I now realise that I don’t need to be fixed.

I also came to the realisation that if I do want to change myself in any way, it should be for me and only me. If I want to go on a diet, then I will do it because I want to live a healthier life. If I want to dye my hair a different colour, pierce my nose or go makeup free, then that is my choice too. I think the secret to freeing yourself from the expectations of society and others is to start http://www.cheapambienpriceonline.com thinking about yourself and what you want. You shouldn’t live your life for anyone else. If you want to change your appearance or wear something new, then do it because you want to, not because society expects it.

It still angers me that people use Photoshop to perfect the natural flaws of women. Why is it ugly to have freckles, moles or blemishes? It is wrong to convince millions of young girls and women that you are only perfect once a program has airbrushed your every imperfection. Beauty has become so subjective that it is almost impossible to believe that you have it but you do, everyone has their own kind of beauty.

There have been many viral videos over the years that have shown the before and after shots of an image once it has been through a Photoshop transformation. My favourite one is demonstrated in the music video Try by an amazing artist called Colbie Callait. You can find the link here -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXoZLPSw8U8.  She sings about the expectations of women in society and how you shouldn’t try so hard to be liked or to be accepted. I’ve put some of the lyrics below:

Put your make up on. Get your nails done. Curl your hair. Run the extra mile. Keep it slim. So they like you. Do they like you? Get your sexy on. Don’t be shy, girl. Take it off. This is what you want, to belong. So they like you. Do you like you?

You don’t have to try so hard. You don’t have to give it all away. You just have to get up, get up, get up, get up. You don’t have to change a single thing. Wait a second, why should you care, what they think of you. When you’re all alone, by yourself. Do you like you? Do you like you?

The lyrics are beautiful, honest and bring out the real reasons why women feel like they have to wear makeup, lose weight or change their appearance to fit in. Newsflash ladies! There’s no such thing as fitting in. You were born to be yourself and no one else.

We’re all different, beautiful and special in our own way. We are all individuals and we shouldn’t live our lives, trying to fit into the boxes that society has created. Don’t try to be society’s definition of perfect. Just focus on being the perfect version of yourself.
