If you are wondering how the top women in business got to where they are today, then it will probably do you some good to hear the advice directly from them. Climbing to the top of the business world is completely possible with the right advice. Here is some advice from the top women in business today that should help you along.
Be True to Yourself
“In order to lead an organization, you have to be incredibly comfortable in your own skin,” says Gracia Martore of Gannett, “and the only way to do that is to be confident in who you are.”
This piece of advice is really important for women to remember. Sometimes, we can feel pressured to become someone that everyone else likes instead of being true to ourselves. Getting ahead as an entrepreneur is all about authenticity if you are trying to build a brand. Focus on emphasising your own positives and skills and stop trying to be something that is not just you.
Find Opportunities to Get Ahead
“For a lot of women, they think the myth is true, that if they just do a good job and work hard, they’ll get recognized. That’s not the case,” says Maggie Wilderotter, CEO of Frontier Communications.
For entrepreneurs, it can be difficult to figure out how to truly get ahead. As an entrepreneur it can be tempting to simply work yourself into the ground while trying to grow your business. However, this is not healthy for you and it is not what will give you true success.
When I started my business I did make this mistake myself. But thanks to the right opportunities and networks, I was able to start making my business work for me instead of the other way around. Once you get to this point, your life will be transformed and the path to success will be so much easier.
Be Committed to Your Business
“I had a very strong work ethic,” says Heather Bresch, CEO of Mylan, “and was willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done. There is simply no substitute for hard work when it comes to achieving success.”
While overworking can be bad, it is very important that you have a strong commitment to your business. Without this, your business will not thrive because you will not feel the drive to seek out the opportunities that are required to make it grow.
I’ve found that the most valuable help I’ve gotten in my career has come from senior professionals. However, I do always make sure to read up on what some of my “business heroes,” as one might refer to them, are doing. This helps me to get some perspective on how things are currently in the business world.
However, any advice from those that are more advanced in their careers is probably good advice! Let me know what you think about this in the comments. Share some of your favourite business leaders and the advice from them that you think is most valuable.
