A blissful state of mind – meditation

While relaxation offers a short term relief from stress, regular meditation brings more control over restless thoughts and emotions. If practiced on a regular basis, you can begin to master a sense of detachment from the burdens of life, giving you a permanent peace of mind. It really works! It’s a magical thing, which is beneficial to all of us. Our minds are such complex things, but if they can create chaos so easily, it’s just as easy for them to create peace (With practice!).

Mastering the art of meditation is not easy though. It takes a lot of time, a lot of patience and most of all, discipline, which is why many of us push it aside. I think it’s something that should be a priority as the benefits are completely worth it.

Here are some of the benefits:

Develops will power

Reduces pain

Improves your thought process

Improves mood

Helps sleep

Quiets your mind

I try to meditate for 15 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes before I go to sleep. I enjoy doing it because it helps me start the day peacefully and helps end it peacefully too. It gives me a fresh mind-set for the day and everything is just a little bit clearer. It also helps to quiet my mind at night time, which is nice because I’m constantly thinking about things! It simply helps me manage my thoughts. It’s strange how such a simple thing can be so beneficial. I can’t quite manage an hour yet! Some people are able to do it for hours and hours, it’s crazy!

It can be time consuming though, which unfortunately gives people the misunderstanding that it is a more of a chore than something enjoyable. So why not make it more fun?

Create a space in your home which is your space only. Decorate it with the things that you love. This could involve candles, pillows, chimes or even fairy lights! See it as your own personal sanctuary where you can work to achieve a blissful state of mind. It’s wonderful when you get there.

It’s up to you if and how you want to start practicing. There are hundreds of books you could read, videos you could watch, or you could even go to classes. Something which I find most helpful is listening to guided meditation videos on YouTube. It’s great as there are so many different types that are tailored to all individual needs. Have a browse and see which ones suit you!

Meditation isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but if you’re feeling a bit stressed or on edge, it’s worth a try. Good luck!
