My skin has always been iffy. It’s one of those awkward skin types where it’s too dry yet too oily. It’s a pain in the butt because I use moisturiser to help the dryness, but because it’s oily the moisturiser makes spots emerge. Can. Not. Win. This really started to get on my nerves, so I decided to change up my routine by taking out one thing: moisturiser.
My old skin routine simply consisted of me washing my face with plain soap and then slapping on a load of moisturiser, which I now realise did nothing for me. It just made my face clogged up and greasy. My new routine on the other hand has worked wonders!
Over the past few weeks I have been using a product from Neutrogena. It’s the Visibly Clear pink grapefruit scrub (£4.69 from boots!). I use it once in the morning and once before I go to bed. I then splash my face with water, pat it dry and leave it at that. Now normally, I’d instantly go and grab a bottle of moisturiser, but have recently learnt that it’s my worst enemy! It sounds weird I know. You’d think it would help improve skin if anything. Anyway, I didn’t use it and had the best results!
For the first week or so of not using moisturiser, I have to admit my skin didn’t feel too pleasant. It felt quite dry and uncomfortable, but after a couple of weeks it began to adapt to the change and really improved. It became less red, less blotchy and less irritated. I haven’t used any creams for a good few weeks now and my skin feels great. Fair enough it doesn’t looked air brushed or anything, but I can now see and feel a very noticeable difference. It’s 10x smoother and my face feels clear, light and non-greasy. The Neutrogena scrub alone leaves me feeling natural and fresh, so the last thing I want to do is mask over it with a load of cloggy cream. It smells wonderful too and the micro beads really do their job! Some days I even just splash my face with water and leave it at that.
Obviously this won’t be for everyone because we all have different skin types, but in my case, less is more. I’ve spent so much money on lotions and potions to help my skin, when really they were all making it worse. Don’t get me wrong, my skin still has it’s moments, but it’s honestly so much better. If you have the same awkward skin type as me, why not try giving this a go? It takes a bit of time, so you have to be patient, but maybe it’s worth a try? May I add that my boyfriend was the one who said to get rid of the moisturiser? Skin savior!
Anyhoo, good luck! xo
(P.S! Each one of us has a different skin type so this post may be perfect for you or completely useless to you. Also, not all face scrubs are going to agree with everyone. I recommend testing out a few different scrubs to make sure you find one which is suited to you and your skin. This is just my experience with the fabulous Neutrogena!)
